Wii Gonzalo Gonzalo was born in Logroño, Spain and grew up among the vineyards that her parents cultivated in Fuenmayor. After studying biology in León and oenology in the university of Rioja, she dedicated herself to travelling through France and Italy where she met small vine-growers and winemakers and discovered a different way of making wine. When her father became seriously ill due to over exposure to agrochemicals, she decided that chemical free was the only way. The family estate had a difficult first year so Wii applied for a loan from the bank so they could finish the harvest. The loan was declined on the basis that wine was not a seizable asset but luckily some friends stepped in and got them through the hard times.
\nThe back label reads "Gran Cerdo is a great wine dedicated to the bank executives that denied loans to us on the basis that wine is not a seizable asset. One day, these greasy and sweaty corporate suits will find that the best things in life cannot be impounded. Thanks to our friends help, we were finally able to bottle this wine. Now you can enjoy it with pasta or ham."
\n
\nClean farming with some biodynamic practice, in the end, Gran Cerdo is all about the purest expression of fruit with whole bunch fermentation, no filtration, no stabilization and minimal sulphur. Often hailed as the best value natural wine on the market, this wine certainly punches above its weight.
