Nebbiolo ‘Scajeta’ Monferrato Rosso, Rugra 2011

Nebbiolo ‘Scajeta’ Monferrato Rosso, Rugra 2011
Classic, mature, northern Italian red that has been long aged in big old oak barrels. Full bodied but some how light and silky with complex aromas and flavours of tangy red cherry and petals. Much more could be said but the joy in this wine is exploration.

Description
Tiny production from Luigi Zucchi from only two hectares of vines in the Monferrato region within Piedmont. Piedmont is famous for Barolo production. This wine from Rugra is made with Nebbiolo (the famous Barolo grape variety) in a very traditional method. Firm structure is softened by long aging in the big old wood barrels called Botte. The resulting wine has a brick orange hue, silky tannins and a lovely brightness and complexity. This is what Barolo used to taste like before the modern international styles started to become popular. This wine very much conforms to all the production criteria most would associate with natural wine without attempting to conform. Simply farmed and produced the way it always has achieving the same clean practices.
