Frank Cornelissen is a Belgium born, self taught wine-maker who lives on and makes wine on a Sicilian Volcano. He is possibly one of the greates contemporary producers in the world. He is intense, exacting, methodical, deeply philosophical and brilliant and his wines are a perfect reflection of all of his intrigue and idiosyncrasies. His ultimate goal when arriving on Mount Etna was to create a wine that reflected where it was from with absolute purity. In his words Frank set out to make ‘liquid rock’. Some of the ways Frank achieves this unadulterated winemaking style include adding exactly nothing when winemaking, using epoxy lined staves on his basket press and epoxy-lined amphora to age and negate any exchange of flavour between wine and vesel. His wines contain grapes, grapes and more grapes, which is why he works so hard in the vineyard to make naturally healthy fruit with minimal human intervention in the form of chemical, organic or even biodynamic treatments. He has made waves in the wine world as his top cuvee ‘Magma’ has achieved international acclaim achieving 100 parker points. Clear proof that stable wines can be achieved with natural wine-making methods!
