Description
Hacienda Grimón is run by the Oliváns, a family with a long winemaking tradition in Rioja. Grimón was established by PacoGrimón who runs the bodega and his brother Eliseo who takes care of the viticulture. Their 25 hectares of vineyards are based in the Valle de Jubera, a secluded and little-known corner of Rioja Alta with a great viticultural history. Viticulture is organic – “always has been here, why do I need certification?” – with no use of herbicides and pesticides, sheep manure is used as fertilizer.
Paco says “In honour of my Grandfather, this wine has been fermented in an open lake and using whole bunches, causing carbonic maceration. This process is based on what he did (Mi Abuelo), but using the methods and knowledge that we have today. Part of the blend went through malolactic fermentation in barrelsto maintain the essence of this classic wine without adding any aroma or flavour of wood. If you’ve ever had this kind of wine before, it will remind you of those feelings. If not, it will surely be something new for you, that will make you love wine even more. A wine that will make you travel back in time. This wine has been made with the five native varieties of Rioja, that my grandfather used; Tempranillo, Garnacha,Graciano, Mazuelo and Viura.
